With the age, the physical activity of the cat decreases, and its energy needs also. An adapted food will contribute to maintain him healthy. Here are the advice of our angel Isis :
- Choose delicious and easily digestible food.
- Split the meals.
- Unless otherwise specified by the veterinarian, favor a top-quality wet food.
- Watch a contribution being enough in vitamins : C and E for the immune system and against cellular ageing, D for skin and fur(so that your cat can synthesize the vitamin D, expose him a small moment to the sun if he doesn’t go there alone), and the rest of the alphabet for his general well-being.
- Watch a regular contribution of glucosamin and chondroitin to protect his articulations and his musculoskeletal system (by means of a food complement with extract of green mussel for example).
- Always put some fresh water in arrangement, and watch the consumption of your old cat. Consult the veterinarian if your cat drinks more than 100 ml / kg / day, it can be due to a problem of loins.
If your old cat loses weight without visible reason, he maybe has a toothache, or bellyache, or somewhere else : go to the veterinarian !
I should pass this info to the other two cats here… or do you think they would be insulted?
If you say it carefully like “I read something very interesting”, and are very polite, and say something like “did you know it”, they could not feel insulted. Maybe. Purrs
Those are some great suggestions. I have an older cat that will NOT eat canned food at all. But he does well with the dry food. Happy Wednesday to all of you.
Great post, I agree with wet food as being best.
We eat wet food and we aren’t old but the only dry food we eat are Dreamies chicken flavour treats.

Our resident elder Buddy was off the dry years ago when Dad saw him limping at 20+ pounds. (He arrived at that weight) He was a kibble addict but now that he is on wet you should see him zoom. He is still big at 14.5 and dont get in the way he will know you over MOL
Great posts this month.
Who is that puff cat in the photo?

It’s our Angel Isis. Purrs
Once again, great advice! You Swiss Cats are experts!!
another great post zorro & pixie…if we mite add, raising de food bowl “up” off de floor about 4- 6 inches helps; or it did gram paw dude, so he didn’t hafta crouch down to eat…de dish was level then with his chest

This is good advice. Thanks for sharing.
Great advise. Happy Wednesday!
good advice. Kidney disease is huge in the U.S. with older cats. All the more reason to feed wet food.
Thanks for the good advice. Lily Olivia is 15, and Mom should probably be paying closer attention to these things. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
That is good advice as both Treasure and JJ are older kitties

Yes! Senior cats need special dietary considerations. Thanks for reminding people!
Great advice. I say to feed all cats wet food.
Great advice! Julie and Carl are both 17 and they have good appetites. Tomorrow they go to the vets for a check up. They both enjoy their food and love treats!

I think I now may qualify as “senior cat” but I am not positive of my age…probably 8… but I am eating and running still like a youngster! Very good advice about caring for us seniors
